BOOKS AND RECORDS
In a room there are stacks of magazines, records in alphabetized rows, a pile of houseplant books from the 1970’s and art books lined up by subject on a very tall metal shelf. These things have been acquired in book stores, records stores, thrift stores, occasionally boxes left on the street and one time stolen from the public library. Their arrangements rest between nourishment and overdose. Are they pieces of a self-induced archive or something more cryptic and pathological like repetitive acquisition syndrome? Does it matter? Whatever the reasons, it is a habit that involves a reception to chance and a belief that some auratic thing has been dislocated and deserves retrieval.
The following images are pairings of two separate but equally loyal collections. One of books - and a magazine (DLS) and one of records (CHN).
